Medina FC lift S/K East Knockout Trophy

Medina FC on Saturday humiliated Ball Conge FC 3-0 in the final of the Gamcel sponsored knockout competition of the Serrekunda East Sports Developmental Organisation, to end their four years trophy less campaign.

Defender Omar Darboe put Medina ahead in the 6th minute of the game from a brilliant out-foot shot.

Abdoukarim Jaiteh made it 2-0 for the Tallinding boys in the 51st minute of the game from a spectacular free kick, while Alasana Marong sealed the victory for Medina FC in the 67th minute from a wonderful shot after capitalizing on skipper Pa Modou Sarr’s cross.

Medina FC received a trophy and a cash prize of D15,000 as winners while Ball Conge FC collected a consolation prize of D10,000.

Nguma Fans Club were named the most disciplined and organised fans club, while Amadou Camara of Milan FC was voted the most outstanding goalkeeper.

Lamin ‘Dugal’ Jammeh, head coach of Bantaba FC, was voted the best coach of the season, while the best player honour went to Omar Ndong of Hands of Africa FC.

Bundung Red Cross Home Link and Bundung Police Station were also certificated for their immense contribution during the nawetan competition, while Milan Rosenerri FC were named the most disciplined team.  

Speaking to reporters, Ansumana Jallow, head coach of Medina FC, thanked his players, the management of Medina FC and fans of the team, saying he always has to think positively because he has to work hard to win games.

He added that the final was a difficult game but his side deserved to win, “The win is a great achievement,” he said. “As technicians we believe that as far as the ball is rolling goals can be scored.”

He also said that in football people have to respect their opponents.

Basiru Taal, head coach of Ball Conge FC, said he took the defeat in good faith and thanked his players, saying: “If you observe the game from the beginning you will know that my side lost not because of poor football from the boys but because of bad luck.

“Our nawetan season is very bad (being relegated) but we would come with a difference next season.”

Pa Modou Sarr, Captain of Medina FC, said the build-up towards the game was not easy but that they worked very hard for the victory.

He also described the game as easy for his side, noting that he saw no reason why Ball Conge FC were able to stop them from winning.

“We do play but the fans use to die for us,” he said, adding that their fans always encourage them as they enter the field of play. He therefore thanked them for their support.
