The Management Development Institute (MDI) came from behind to register an emphatic 11-10 victory over Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) in the just ended tertiary institutions football tourney, organised by the Gambia Students Union in a bid to promote and encourage sports in tertiary institutions.
Ebrima NYang opened the scoring for MDI with only 7th minutes on the clock after capitalising on a defensive blunder to put GTTI ahead with a clinical close range finish.
GTTI doubled their lead in the 14th minute, courtesy of a magnificent strike by Abdoulie Jallow, who has been very instrumental throughout the game.
GTTI continued to dictate the tempo of the game, but all their brilliant attacking options and dominance in the middle suffered a major setback, when MDI duo Kawsu Singhateh and Lamin Jaiteh capitalised on two defensive lapses to put their title hope alive with two spectacular goals: one from a close range effort and another from a spot kick.
Both sides went closed to increasing their advantage, but they were occasionally denied by poor finishing resulting in a penalty shoot-out in which MDI emerged the champions, after recording a dramatic 11-10 victory in a penalty shoot- out, an occasion which was understood to have left their fans in dismay.
MDI were awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D2, 500, while the runners-up GTTI received a cash prize of D1, 500.
The tertiary institutions football tournament, according to the President of the Gambia Students Union Ansumana Darboe, was sponsored by LT General, Lang Tombong Tamba.
He expressed hope that the championship woulf be transformed into an annual event
