Zuwa Football Club of Bakau New Town have turned its fortune around with an incredible 1-nil win over the highly rated Vidar following an exciting Nawettan match played under the watchful eyes of thousands of football followers on a cool Monday evening at Real de Banjul playgrounds.
Following what pundits called a below par start to the season accompany by a disappointing goalless draw against newcomers Farokono in their opening game of the campaign, Zuwa FC resumed its quest for their second silverware having already claimed one accolade to its name with a Super Cup success over mighty Ron Mango a fortnight ago.
That opening game’s stalemate result last week led to suggestion that the team (Zuwa FC) will face an overwhelming task in their hunt to replicate the same success this term.
But their recent convincing run of fine form coupled with their heroic victory at the expense of fans’ favourite Vidar could no doubt give the fanatic followers of Bakau football something to be optimistic of a successful campaign for last year’s knockout finalists who will face a huge task when they entertain Milan FC in their next encounter next week Thursday.
A sensational strike by striker Abdoulie Barrow proved to be the decisive moment of the game when the lanky forward sent in a power right footed shot past Vidar gloves man Yaya who had an outstanding evening for the Bakau outfit with strings of world class saves.
However, Vidar continue their pursuit of an equalizer when they fell 1-nil behind in the early stage of an action packed encounter but all their brilliant attacking options and dominance in the latter part of the game were not good enough to earn the star-studded Vidar side a happy moment and eventually bowed out of the match amidst poor finishing ability.
While their opponents could only capitalize on their first real opportunity, they missed series of some golden opportunities to bury the match in the second period and they have goalkeeper Musa Touray to thank for his fantastic goalkeeping display that denied the visitor’s the vital points.
The other game in the 24-team league campaign saw Linguere recover from their dismal start to the competition as they salvaged a resounding 2-nil win over 5 Junction thanks to goals from Striker Sheriff Hydara with fellow strike-partner adding the second to round up an emphatic 2-nil score-line earlier on Monday.
