Sixteen students accompanied by three teachers of Model United Nations Club of Marina International High School left Banjul on Monday to attend an international conference in the US, from 9 to 12 March.
Speaking to reporters shortly before their departure, the coordinator of the club, Ben Richards, said the students will join more than three thousands students from different countries in the world.
“In this conference, students will step in the shoes of UN ambassadors representing different countries and will be discussing various issues on global important topics such as emergency management of natural disasters and access to health care,” Mr Richards explained.
Fatoumatta Kaba Jawara, a form six student, and Fatoumatta Sanyang a form three student, both expressed delight about the trip.
They said that it will give them opportunity to interact with students from other countries around the world.
She said that it is also a challenge for them since they will be discussing topical issues such as access to pharmaceutical healthcare by developing countries under the World Health Organisation and speaking about the significance of health.
“Access to healthcare by children of the world should be of paramount importance,” they said.
