Marina International School administrator testifies

Seedy Saho, an Administrator at Marina International School, recently testified before Principal Magistrate Kayode Olajubutu of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court against Hakim Subair, a plaintiff.

The plaintiff, Hakim Subair dragged the school to the Industrial Tribunal for wrongful termination of his services.

In his testimony, Seedy Saho told the court that he is the Finance Administrative Manager of the School. He stated that he controls the finance of the school and he is the custodian of the files of teachers.

Still testifying, he indicated that the teachers and the students felt threatened because of the presence of the plaintiff in the school as he threatened to kill them. He told the court that the science department had a meeting and talked about the plaintiff's uncompromised attitude in the school.

He further narrated that the plaintiff does not obey instructions and that he (plaintiff) attended a meeting held by the Labour Department and the board of the school, decided to terminate his service and the meeting was conducted by the Vice-Chairman of the board, Omar Njie, stating that it was done in line with the Labour Act. He went on to testify that the plaintiff was written to and a cheque was prepared in his name.

He further adduced that the letter was sent to the plaintiff and he refused to sign and receive it, which the school later kept.

He stated that the plaintiff sent a letter to the general body to discredit the school. He said that the plaintiff has not justified in his claim and that the school does not need to pay him the amount he was claiming.

The head of the high school Ousman Musa Sanneh also testified against the plaintiff and said almost the same thing as the first witness had narrated.

Both witnesses were cross-examined by the plaintiff.

The case was adjourned to 1st April 2010 for judgment.
