Marakisa School lifts British national trophy

A British national from Wales, Robert Bobb and his Gambian friend, Musa Mendy have  sponsored a tournament in Region 2 of Western Region, featuring 16 Lower Basic Schools within Brikama catchment areas. The final of the tournament was played at Brikama Mini Stadium last Saturday at around 4. 30pm.

Kabafita and Marakisa Lower Basic Schools locked horns in the final, while Jamisa and Saint Martin battled for the third positions at the same Mini Stadium. 

The  final started with high esteem from both school teams and during the 37th minutes of the game Marakisa Lower Basic School's Michael Colley registered his school's first goal. Alhagie Colley in the 50th minute scored Marakisa's second goal to sealed his side 2-0 win.

As champions Marakisa School bagged home a giant trophy, medals for 15 players and  officer and a new football.

The sponsors  also decorated the schools that participated in both third and fourth  positions. The four schools were given a complete set of football jerseys, while the four referees who officiated the matchesalso received referee jerseys.

Speaking to Pointsport shortly after the match, Musa Mendy thanked Brikama Youths and Sport Association (BYSA) for allowing the schools to use their Mini Stadium.

According to Mendy, this is the second time he and his British friend had organised such a tournament, adding that they sponsored the first one in Region One of KMC last year.

He promised that they would continue their sponsorship to other Regions in future. 

"We felt that football should start from the grassroot level that's why we decided to sponsor 16 Lower Basic Schools within Brikama area to compete for the football tournament," Musa Mendy concluded.
