Man to pay D10,000 for Assault Or.

Magistrate Basiru Mahoney of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 5th April 2009, convicted and sentenced one Basaikou Drammeh to a fine of D10, 000 in default to serve a six-month imprisonment and further ordered him to pay a compensation of D5000 to the complainant. The charge was for assault and criminal damage.

On count two the accused was ordered to keep the peace for a period of two years failure of which will result in three months imprisonment.

 Magistrate Mahoney informed the court that, the accused and the complainant have some grievance between them, adding that the convict attacked the complainant at the mosque with a stick in consequence of which the complainant reported the matter to the Police.The court was also informed that the accused found the complainant inside his car and broke his windscreen with a cutlass, which was to be taken as evidence that the accused was guilty of the said offence.

He stated that the convict is an old man that has prompted the court to exercise mercy as a first time offender.

The convict was charged with willfull damage to property and threatening violence.
