Marigo Dukureh, who was arraigned on 11 February 2016 before Magistrate Nahra of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for stealing, pleaded guilty to the offence.
He was sentenced to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve one year in prison, and was also ordered to pay a compensation of US$11,500 within fourteen days in default to serve three years in prison.
He was to be bailed by two Gambian sureties who must deposit their original ID cards, and to sign a bail bond of D800,000 within the period of paying the compensation.
Following his plea of guilty, Sergeant 544 Jaiteh read the facts to the court and said that within the month of November 2015, the accused was given US$ 20,000 equivalent to D860,000 for one Beyaki Drammeh which he converted to his personal use.
He added that the case was reported to Serrekunda Police Station on 20 November 2015, when the accused was arrested.
Sergeant 544 Jaiteh continued to narrate that the recovery of US$8,500 was made out of which US$ 7,000 was entrusted to the complainant, Beyaki Drammeh, and that US$1,500 was exhibited.
