A man called Mamadi Sabally was recently arraigned before Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining goods by false pretence.
The charge sheet read that in March 2014, at Serrekunda and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality, with intent to defraud he obtained from one Omar Gassama one motor vehicle with registration number BJL2848J “Mercury” Mountain valued at D375,000 with the representation that he would trade same with a plot of land measuring 20m x 25m located in Sukuta, knowing full well at the time of such representation that the said land does not belong to him, and thereby committed an offence.
He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D400,000 with two Gambian sureties who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit their ID cards.
Hearing continues on 2 October 2014.
