Magistrate Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Monday convicted and sentenced one Omar Keita to a fine of D20,000, in default to serve three years in prison.

Omar Keita, who admitted to stealing a motor vehicle, was ordered to compensate the owner with D20,000 in default to serve another two years in prison.

The court also ordered for the said vehicle to be handed over to the owner, Saihou Secka.

In his plea of mitigation, the convict, Omar Keita, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying it was a mistake and would never do it again.

Passing the sentence, the trial magistrate told the court he knew the convict had regretted what he had done, but he committed a serious offence.

He consequently convicted and sentenced him accordingly.

According to the charge sheet read in court, the convicted person, Omar Keita, in February 2013, at Kotu, in the Kanifing Municipality, stole a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 0882 G, marked Peugeot 405 white colour private valued at D80,000, the property of one Saihou Secka.
