A man was convicted on 22 October 2015, at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court by Magistrate Janneh, on two counts of housebreaking and stealing.
Ebrima Drammeh was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve six months in prison on count one.
He was also convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000 on count two in default to serve six months in prison.
The sentences followed his plea of guilt.
In his plea of mitigation, the convict told the court that he was the breadwinner of his family, and he regretted committing the offence.
He urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
According to the bill of indictment, Ebrima Drammeh broke into the dwelling house of one Abdoulie Jallow with intent to steal on 1 October 2015, at Kanifing Layout in the Kanifing Municipality.
Prosecutors also alleged that on the same date and place, the convict stole the following items: one HP laptop and charger valued at D2,500, a Gamcel data card valued at D1,500, one car tape valued at D2,500, one flash drive valued at D500, one Nokia phone valued at D1,000, gold-plated chain valued at D7,000, one wrist watch valued at D500, totaling D15,500, all the property of the said Abdoulie Jallow.
