The opening of the bureau also saw the federation stage a day’s rapid tournament, which was won by Gambia’s third candidate master Ebrima Bah alias Kuru Boy, who went home with seven thousand dalasi as winner.

Established in 1976

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Antouman Njie, president of the federation, was delighted to see the federation, established in 1976, operating from its own office for the first time since its establishment.

He announced that the federation made significant progress in national and international competitions recently.

The sustainability and achievements registered by the federation would not have been possible without the support of ex-members, the current executive, and those that in one way or the other supported them, he noted, and thanked all on behalf of the executive.

Mawdo Sallah, secretary general of the federation, who chaired the opening ceremony, described the day as a milestone in the history of the federation thanks to the efforts of all.

Among their plans for 2015 is to begin a chess school, as well as host an international competition, he announced.
