A man called Saga Jallow was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D250,000, in default to serve five years in prison by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court after admitting to be in possession of prohibited drug.
The facts of the case as narrated before the court stated that the incident took place on 22 December 2011, when information was received about the accused person.
The facts further added that a team of officers was dispatched to the accused person’s home, where he was found preparing suspected cannabis.
A search was conducted in his room and a yellow colour mayonnaise bucket was found containing 58 rounds of suspected cannabis in two parcels and some cannabis seeds.
The facts state further that the accused was arrested and taken to Serrekunda Police Station where he was cautioned and charged.
On 29 December 2011, the accused was escorted to the medical and health laboratory and a weighing certificate was issued.
He was later escorted to the NDEA office in Banjul where cautionary and voluntary statements were obtained from him in the presence of an independent witness.
