Man convicted for burglary and theft

One Alhagie Cham was recently convicted on charges of housebreaking and stealing by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Jallow.

Cham was convicted on count one to a fine of D2,500 in default to serve six months in prison and on count two to a fine of D2,500 in default to serve six months in prison.

Both sentences were to run concurrently and the magistrate also ordered that the recovered items be returned to the owner.

The charge on count one stated that on 6 July 2011, at Bakau Newtown, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Alhagie Cham, broke into the house of one Liman Taban, with intent to commit a felony, to wit stealing.

Furthermore, count two stated that he stole the following items: two Nokia mobile phones, two long trousers, one T-shirt, one long-sleeve shirt and one charger with earphone. The monetary value of all the items stolen is D5,300, being the property of the said Liman Taban.
