Man convicted for assault

Following admission of his criminal responsibility, a man called Pa Modou Kanteh was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve three months in prison.

Pa Kanteh, who pleaded guilty of the offence of assault, causing actual bodily harm, was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D2,500.

The charge sheet stated that on 24 January 2011, at Bakau car park, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Pa Modou Kanteh, assaulted one Ansumana Sonko by hitting him with a wooden pestle on his head, thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

The convict in his plea of mitigation begged the court for mercy.
