One Basiru Ceesay was recently arraigned before Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with burglary, stealing and escaping from lawful custody.
The charge sheet on count one stated that on 11 September 2014, at Bakoteh Sambatako foreign exchange bureau in the Kanifing Municipality, he broke into the shop of one Lisa Fatty with intent to commit a felony, that is, to steal.
Count two read that he stole the following items: two flat screens marked Samsung valued at D32,000, one rlg phone valued at D800, a data card valued at D1,500, cash of D8,700, US$100 equivalent to D4,000 and 50 Euro equivalent to D2,800, being the property of the said foreign exchange bureau.
Count three stated that on 24 September 2014, at Kanifing court house in the Kanifing Municipality, while under lawful police custody escaped from such custody.
Ceesay denied the charge and was granted court bail of D50,000 with two Gambian sureties who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit their ID cards.
Hearing continues on 7 October 2014.
