Man arraigned for alleged theft

One Sheikou Sillah was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing.

He denied the charge and the case was adjourned till 30 November 2011.

Testifying for the prosecution, Liu Guagda, a Chinese national, told the court that on 27 October 2011, he was at the traffic light from Banjul.

He said he stopped waiting for the green light to come on, when the accused came near the car door and told him that the car had a break down.

He added that as he alighted from the car to check on the problem, the accused picked a black bag from the car which contained D75, 525.

Liu Guagda further testified that it was a school boy who informed him that the accused had taken a bag from the car and had boarded a taxi instantly. They chased the taxi and the accused was apprehended with the help of the police, he explained.

He added that when they approached the taxi, the accused then placed the said bag, which was on his laps, beside him. Upon discovering the bag by his side the accused was arrested and taken to the police station.
