Maahad Principal, Vice return from UK Educational visit

Two senior officials of Maahad Senior Secondary School in Brikama Jamisa in Region 2 returned The Gambia on Tuesday from a weeklong educational visit to the UK.

The two are the Principal of the school, Lamin M. Bojang, and the Vice-principal, Lamin M. Drammeh.

In an exclusive interview with this reporter on Thursday in his office, the Vice Principal of Maahad Senior Secondary School, Lamin M. Drammeh, said they had formed a link with one school in the UK called Abbyfield Whilshire School in Chippenham through Jole Rider Foundation.

He said that since the formation of the link between the two schools, Abbyfield Whilshire School had provided Maahad with two projects which included sponsoring the school garden and a bee keeping projects.

"This was the second visit made to Abbyfield Whilshire School," he said. "The first visit was made by one teacher three years ago, while for that of Abbyfield Whilshire School in the UK they do visit Maahad Senior annually."

He said that during their one-week visit to the UK they took part in a tree planting exercise, taught Islamic studies and also observed teaching at Abbyfield Whilshire School.

"Through this link we do exchange our syllabuses and because of the exchange of syllabus Abbyfield Whilshire School are now able to teach in their school the Geographical location of The Gambia, Tie and dye, Gambian ways of dress, among others," he said.

"We also had a fruitful discussion with the school principal James Fox, their school board of directors, ex-students of the school who once visited Maahad, and the parents whose children are attending Abbyfiled Whilshire School," he said.

Mr Drammeh thanked the proprietor of Maahad Senior Secondary School, Alhagie Banding Drammeh, and the board chairman of the school, Kakai Sanyang, for their tireless effort in making Maahad Senior what it is today.

He revealed that the staff and some students of Abbyfiled Whislhire School in UK will pay a return visit to Maahad in April 2011.
