Saint Therese’s Upper Basic School, in Region One recently received donation from a Gambian based in Barcelona, Spain, Mr. Saikou Jammeh. The donated items included set boxes, chalks, pens, colours, bags and toys to the school.

The donor, Saikou Jammeh said, he came to The Gambia on a holiday and brought along school materials to donate to the schools and communities in the region.

Jammeh, who said he has been doing it since in 1998, hailed some of his friends in Barcelona for supporting the cause. As he puts it, he is happy to be associated with St. Therese’s School.

Mr. Jammeh urged the students to respect their teachers and take their learning with seriousness.

For her part, Zono Jammeh, the Principal of the school, said she felt honoured to accept the gift, on behalf of the school.

She promised that they would put the items to good use, while encouraging other Gambians in the Diaspora to emulate Jammeh’s gesture.

She also said they needed people like him since the government cannot do it alone, adding that the cost of running a school is expensive.

Madam Jammeh stated that anything the community can do to help better the school is always welcome.
