Unique FM and KWT will clash in the final of the 2nd edition of Gambia Press Union sponsored Fatou Mbye Memorial tournament on Saturday at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

KWT got two solid goals at the expense of West Coast who failed to score, to secure a final berth in the inter-media championship yesterday evening in the second semi-final at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium.

Unique FM first booked their qualification by beating Foroyaa 1-0 in yesterday morning encounter at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

A lone goal from striker Dodou Minteh was all but enough to send Unique Fm into the final of the eight-team championship.

Minteh’s goal came in the fourth minute of the game when he capitalised on a clear scoring opportunity to hammer home from a close range effort and helped his team reach the final.

Foroyaa Newspaper’s Momodou Lamin Badjie and another player nicknamed Small could have equalised for their side but they were denied by some poor finishing in both periods.

Alfonse Krubally had Foroyaa’s best chance of the interesting encounter when he failed in his attempt to bring his team back into the game as his acrobatic volley went inches over the goalpost three minutes to stoppage time.

Eku Johnson, head coach of the victorious Unique Fm team, after the game said he was very much impressed with Foroyaa team but was however quick to praise his team for advancing to the final in a stunning fashion.

Johnson commended the Sports Journalists Association of The

Gambia for staging the tournament and called for its continuity.

Fabakary B. Ceesay, Foroyaa’s head coach, said his team could have won the game.

Ceesay however attributed Foroyaa’s defeat to tactical lapses as well as absence of some key players who failed to turn up for yesterday’s fixture.

In the women’s category, tournament co-organisers the Red Scorpions will meet Jamcity in the final to be played earlier on Saturday at Serrekunda East.
