Kudos to SJAG

Jan 4, 2011, 11:30 AM

The Gambian community in Bergen, Norway, should be commended for lending their support to the Sports Journalists Association of the Gambia to equip their newly-established secretariat with equipment like computers, a printer, office furniture, documentation files, a set of jerseys and two footballs.

This is a great achievement in the history of the country’s sports journalists, being the first time for them to establish their own office.

The donation presented by the Gambian community in Norway is, indeed, a great gesture as it will be recorded in the annals of sport journalism in this country.

Now with a donation of such magnitude from fellow Gambians, coupled with the opening of a new office, it is the responsibility of the journalists within the sporting arena to use the equipment provided for the purpose they are meant for.

We would also like to commend the director of Media Agenda and Publisher of Daily News newspaper, Madi Ceesay, for providing office space for the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia.

Meanwhile, since  the new executive of the  association came into being, it has organized major programmes including the just-ended Inter-Media Tournament for the late Fatou Mbye and the recent training course in cricket reporting  conducted for  the sports journalists.

We call on other Gambians in the Diaspora to emulate the gesture of their compatriots in Norway.
