Information reaching the Media Centre at the 2008 National Youth Conference and Festival has intimated that next Nayconf will be held in 2010 will be hosted by the KanifingMunicipality.

According to sources close to the National Youth Council, the KanifingMunicipality bid alongside Central River Region in which the former defeated CRR by 5 votes to 3 in an election among council members.

It's a norm for council members at the end of every Nayconf to meet and select the host for next Nayconf.

When contacted for his reaction, Bakary Badjie, Chairperson of the Kanifing Municipal Youth Committee and also a representative in the National Youth Council, confirmed the story.

According to him, the hosting was an open bid noting that KMC and CRR were the only regions that tendered their application to host the event. When asked whether it's fair to allow CRR to host the event for the first time instead of taking it to KMC for the second time, Badjie said, " as far as we are concerned, this is the first time KMC is to host Nayconf under the auspices of the National Youth Council even though we hosted " Youth Week" in 1999 under the co-ordination of theDepartment of State for Youth and Sports," Badjie clarified.

He emphasized that at council level there is nothing like rotation with regard to the hosting of Nayconf noting that the bidding is open to all regions for those who feel like they can host it successfully, can apply.

He assured all that the 2010 Nayconf will be the best among all the Nayconfs. He went on to say that the structures are already in place at KMC, which he believes, would help them give back Nayconf its lost glory, " I can assure you that Nayconf 2010 will bethe best in the history of events".

The news he said was well received by KMC delegates for having made it this time around as they who were disappointed in 2006 after failing to secure the 2008 bid which went in favour of NBR.

Meanwhile, Central River Region is in protest over the issue of the hosting calling it as a blatant discrimination against the provinces. The Chairman of the Region, Aziz Faal, is threatening to boycott next year's event its they are not given the chance to host the event.
