The Kanifing Municipal Disaster Management Committee through the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) and partners, recently assisted 15 families within the municipality who were in recent times affected by fire outbreak.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Kanifing Municipal Council grounds, the Chairman of the Municipal Disaster Committee, Musa Mendy said in the month of March and April, they received 40 cases of fire outbreaks, out of which four hundred families were affected. He however stated that they were only able to assist 15 families.
According to him, they are still soliciting support from partners to support the rest of the affected families. He said through the office of the Mayor, they were able to raise D35, 000.
He stated that as the rainy season is fast approaching, his committee would sensitise the public to take preventive measures in order to avoid disaster.
Among the donated items were 30 bags of rice, 30 sanitary packs, 112 Manna packs of rice, 10 packets of soap, among others.
