Kanilai
Garrison Camp, now renamed Kanilai Batalion, has now been re-opened, the army
spokesman, Lt Colonel Omar B. Bojang, has confirmed.
He
said the closure of the camp after the political impasse, when the ex-president
Yahya Jammeh left, led to security vacuum in the Kanilai area.
“We
made security assessment and we felt there is need to fill the security vacuum
because Kanilai has borders with Cassamance,” Bojang said.
The
camp is now headed by Lt Colonel Sarjo Jarju.
