Johnny Gomez, president of the Gambia Cricket Association, has become the first Gambian to officiate as an umpire in the ICC/ACA Africa Division 1 tournament, which ended recently in Uganda.
Johnny was nominated and selected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Africa Cricket Council (ACC) to officiate in the tournament in an appointment letter he received on 5 February 2013.
The tournament was played from 24 February to 1 March 2013.
Johnny’s participation in the tournament is regarded as a stepping stone for Gambian umpires, opening the door for others to follow his footsteps.
