Mr. Yusupha Manneh, the Chief Executive Officer of Janjangbureh Area Council has called on the people of his area to pay their rates and taxes on time, as Council's survival depends on them.
Mr. Manneh, who was speaking in an interview with our reporter yesterday said most of the people who are bound to pay their dues are farmers, most of whom complain of poor season.
According to him, the Area Council collects rates and taxes from its people and ploughs it back in the form of development projects within the Local Government Area.
"For the council to be able to plough back what is collected from its people, the people should pay their rates and taxes on time," he emphasised.
Mr. Manneh revealed that there are a lot of arrears on rates and taxes, especially Bansang and Janjangbureh that needs to be paid so that other projects can be implemented. He noted that Janjanbureh Areas Council is endowed with small revenue, compared to other Area Councils in the country, thus calling for its resources to be properly utilised.
He added that since he assumed office in 2007, his council has achieved tremendous developments, ranging from market building, constructions of feeder roads, building waiting shade, toilets, scholarship for needy students, among others, across the length and breadth of the area.
He urged Chiefs, Alkalolu and Revenue Collectors to intensity rates and taxes collections.
