Jambanjelly United on Tuesday beat Gunjur United 2-0 in the 2014 West Coast Region third division qualifiers game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Both sides have tasted the sweetness of the second tier football few years ago but were relegated to the third tier following their dismal performance in the championship.

They are therefore eager to win and keep their chances of returning to the second division.

Jambanjelly United were the better side as they dominated the game and unleashed several goal-scoring attempts but let the bush squander their bullets.

Gunjur United, who were struggling to establish themselves in the game, created few goal-scoring opportunities thus the first half ended blank.

As actions resumed in the second half, Jambanjelly picked up where they left off in the first half and mounted heavy pressure on Gunjur United.

They finally opened the scoring through talisman Saikou Ceesay in the 66th minutes of the game to give Jam City boys the lead, after a deadlock in the first half.

Saikouba Ceesay sealed the victory for Jambanjelly United in the 77th minutes of the game from a spectacular strike to complete his brace.

Gunjur United fought back for an equalizer and created some goal-scoring opportunities but could not break through Jambanjelly’s solid defence line, thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of Jambanjelly United. The victory has earned Jambanjelly a place in the second round of the qualifiers while Gunjur are out.

While Black & White of Berending beat Farato United 1-0 on Wednesday to advanced to the second of the qualifiers.
