Jali
Kebba, a renowned kora musician, is to stage a mega musical show in Sittanunku
village, Upper Nuimi District, on the 3rd day of Eidul Adha, locally called
Tobaski.
The
fundraising concert, organised by Jerreh Sittanunku Development Association
(JSDA), will be held at Sittanunku school ground starting at 5pm.
The
chairperson of JSDA organising committee, Kawsu Darboe, said the purpose of the
musical concert is to raise money to help the association undertake its desired
development initiatives at the village.
JSDA
has a strategic plan in which relevant areas of intervention are identified for
the development of Sittanunku.
“The
proceeds from the show will be used for the implementation of some programmes in
the strategic plan,” Mr Darboe said.
“At
a time that organisations are lamenting donor-fatigue, it is important that we
look at other means of raising the much needed revenue to continue our
development work at the village.”
JSDA
is a non-profit, non-religious and non-partisan community-development
organisation and it is legally registered at the Attorney General’s Chambers in
Banjul. The membership of the
association mainly comprises people of Sittanunku village.
The
aims and objectives of JSDA include supporting the socio-economic development
of the village, and complementing the efforts of the government and village
authorities.
Fundraising
shows with musicians, like the forthcoming one with Jali Kebba on the 3rd day
of Tobaski, are some of the avenues that JSDA is exploring to raise revenue to
continue working on its development initiatives.
