From
now on, the Gambia Immigration Department will not be issuing any ID card or
passport until further notice as the government embarks on “a comprehensive
review” of the process of issuance of such documents.
“The
Ministry of the Interior hereby informs the general public that it has decided
to temporarily suspend the printing of national ID cards and machine readable
passports,” a press release from the ministry said.
The
release, issued yesterday, said the suspension takes effect immediately and “it
seeks to protect and promote the integrity of our national documents”.
According
to the statement, the interior ministry will be embarking on a comprehensive
review of the entire process of issuance of national documents.
