Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Principal of Marina International School, Mr. Musa Ousman Sanneh, said the initiative is the brainchild of the Interact Club.
He said the club had made such donation to other hospitals like SOS and children wards at RVTH, noting that it is also part of their efforts to teach their students.
For her part, the Co-ordinator of the club, Mrs. Fatoumatta Sonko said the Interact Club gave students the opportunity to play an active role in the life of the community.
"It is the important services that they render to the children that the students learn and develop their leadership skills and they also understand the value of their individual responsibilities and hard work," Mrs. Sonko said.
The Secretary-General of the Interact Club, Ya Haddy Sallah said as future leaders they thought how to extend a generous hand to any needy community or institution.
"Viewing the health centre as one significant institution in this nation, we deemed it quite imperative to direct our annual donation, this year to a health centre and Bakau Health Centre quickly come up to our mind not only for its proximity to our school but also due to the immense service rendered to us and the entire community and beyond," Miss Sallah said.
According to her, it is their own little way of complementing government's effort towards basic health care, and hoped other clubs will emulate them.
"Interact clubs are sponsored by individual rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting club and membership varies greatly," he stated. Noting that the club can be single gender or mixed, large or small, he said members can be drawn from a single school or two or more schools.
