Impersonator convicted

A Yundum Village resident Alasan Nyabally was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D3,000, in default to serve six months in prison with hard labour for impersonation, by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

According to the facts of the case as narrated before the court, it happened on 16 April 2012, when the accused person went to the Banjul International Airport with intent to travel, presented a Swedish passport No 62993074 bearing the name of one Ebrima Leigh to SN Brussels Airline.

After a thorough check of the passport by the profiling official of the said airline, they suspected the accused to be an impersonator and was arrested and handed over to the police at the Airport Terminal Building for interrogation.

At the police station, the accused confessed that his name is Sana Nyabally and not Ebrima Leigh and was consequently cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

The accused after admitting to the facts, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he is the breadwinner of his family.
