1,700 EURO Case In Court

Adama Baldeh and Cherno Baldeh were on 18th November 2009, arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with stealing.

According to the particulars of offence, Adama Baldeh and Cherno Baldeh in the month of September 2009, jointly stole 1,300 Euro, equivalent to D50, 050.00, being the property of one Alieu Ceesay.

For the prosecution to prove its case, it called the first witness, Alieu Ceesay to testify against the accused persons.

In his testimony, Alieu Ceesay told the court that in the month of September 2009, the accused persons went to his Bureau De Change, located at Brusubi with 1700 Euro to change for them.

He said he told them that it would be first changed to Dalasi, then convert it to CFA, to which they all agreed. He adduced that he changed it to Dalasi, which was equivalent to D64,500.

He further stated that the accused persons asked him to convert it to CFA, when they calculated and confirm the sum.

He added that the second accused phoned someone outside and spoke to him after which he told him that his boss had instructed them to cancel the transaction.

He testified that the accused persons later changed their minds and asked him to change it to Dalasi, instead of CFA and then gave them D64, 600, which was then equivalent to 1700 Euros.

 According to him, he unsealed the envelope and to his dismay he found only 400 Euros, and later reported the matter to Brusubi Police Station.

He finally adduced that after sometime, the accused persons appeared at his Bakau Bureau and refunded the 1300 Euros to his brother, Alousainou Ceesay.

The case was adjourned to 3rd December 2009.
