A sensational and decisive second half goal from James Sambou gave 3 times NISA champions, the Gambia Immigration Department a narrow 1-nil win over the Gambia Ports Authority in an exciting NISA final, played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium on Friday.
The Immigration forward scored the only goal of the game when he capitalised on a poor defensive display by the GPA defenders to nod home a brilliant opener in the 58th minute to dash the ferry boy's hope of winning the title.
The win has confirmed Immigration's third NISA titles having won the accolade last year.
Coach Omar Fofana, who was succeeded in guiding the team to their second successive NISA title, expressed delight for what he described as his side's wonderful performance. He added that it was not a surprise when the service men snatched the title at the expense of their opponents who could not capitalise on numerous scoring chances they created in both intervals.
"We are much stronger than GPA and we will certainly continue to dominate the NISA tournament, because we have divisional and talented players at our disposal," Fofana told reporters. This is shortly after the final whistle was blown.
The Gambia Immigration department went home with a trophy and a cheque for D12.000, while the runners-up GPA collected a trophy, as well as a cheque for D8.000.
