A nine-day level-1 IAAF-sponsored Olympic Solidarity Course for Athletics club coaches and Service Athletics teams got underway yesterday at the Friendship Hostel in Bakau.
The course is jointly organised by the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) and Gambia Athletics Association.
The course participants were drawn from different Service Athletics teams and some athletics clubs of coaches.
In her remarks, Amira Jagne, acting president of the Gambia Athletics Association, who spoke at the occasion on behalf of the GAA president, said the Gambia Athletics Association’s vision is to build a better foundation for its athletes.
She added that the Gambia have won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in previous years, while urging the current crop of athletes to put in extra effort to maintain the momentum in order to take athletics to higher heights in the country.
She said the training would go a long way in promoting and developing skills and talents of athletics coaches.
The Executive Director of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Lawrence Bruce, told the participants to take the training course seriously and urged them to make the best use of the knowledge they would gain from the course.
For his part, the president of the GNOC, Alhagie Momodou Dibba, applauded Gambia Athletics Association for their contribution towards the development of athletics in the country.
