Senior national team coach Paul Put has stated that this selection process for the first eighteen squad is based on the performance of individual players during training sessions.

He said, "I know my players and what they can do during our training sessions and can tell what they can deliver".

Mr Put made this statement in a post match Press briefing shortly after The Gambia and Senegal game last Sunday  and reacting to  a question posed to him by journalist as to why most of his players where not featured during Scorpions two appearances.

He said when making changes, you have to be sure that you have made the right one and if you are not sure you must not take any risk.

He said, "Every game is a difficult one but one has to be very optimistic to become a winner".

The Gambia will now take on Algeria in a must win game over the weekend.

Football pundits believe that The Gambia can only win their next game against Liberia if only they are able to work on their goal scoring mechanisms.

But many believe it might not be problem in the presence of Gambian Striker Ousman Jallow and others who will make their debut appearance in the 2010 qualifiers this weekend.

Despite expressing satisfaction over the Scorpions performance during their matches against the Lone Stars of Liberia and Teranga Lions of Senegal, Coach Put is looking forward to collecting three maximum points this weekend as The Gambia host the North African side in Banjul.
