All is set for tomorrow’s launching of the first-ever movie by Hypnotic Movies at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in
Hypnotic Movies, which came into existence in March 2001, has over the years held meetings and rehearsals, and has so far trained over 90 Gambians and 50 non Gambians in the art of movie making. Officials believe that this will create job opportunities for over 20, 000 Gambians in the future.
Speaking at a press conference held at Jokor Westfield last Friday, Mr. Kelvin Blessman, film director of Hypnotic Movies, said there mission is to make a loud statement that the potentials of Gambian talents can be tapped and groomed to international standard.
“We are here in The Gambia, and we believe it is possible to make it with available human resources, to develop and project them to the rest of the world,” he added.
Blessman said that the film industry is a viable way of marketing The Gambia to the rest of the world.
Commenting on the first-ever movie to be launched, Blessman said that it is a story of a betrayal; about someone that got his chance and opportunity to make it in The Gambia, but ended up by derailing himself and losing his chance.
“It is an emotional, action comedy film that was produced after four months of hard work and commitment by the film director, and Gambians who made up of 70% of the crew were very industrious and talented,” he stated.
According to him, the movie was 100 percent produced in The Gambia without any support from anybody.
“We suffered so much to sell our personal properties to make this dream a reality, as we plan to be releasing six films annually if dully supported,” he added.
Mr. Charles Agboola (aka Andy Showman), the film producer, called on the general public to patronize them, and assured the public of the sustainability of their movie industry and of bringing quality to the market.
He commended Africell, the Youki brand, and the Kariaba Beach Hotel for the support rendered to them.
He urged the general public to desist from piracy of the new film, noting that the movie is Gambian-owned.
Meanwhile, tickets for the launching are on sale for D300 single and D500 double.
The movie will be launched on Saturday 1 October 2011 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel from 7 pm to 9 pm.
