Jan 11, 2013, 10:28 AM

After winning the Finish Championship last season to complete a record of four championship titles in a row, Demba Savage’s HJK Helsinki are engaged in series of international club friendlies with fellow teams from Europe.

The warm-up matches before the start of the Finnish league include a game against Twente.

They lost 5-3 to Twente on penalties on Monday.

They were expected to face Norwegian side Strömsgodset yesterday.

The Gambia international, who moved to the Finnish giants last season from fellow Finnish club Honka, has completed a record of 12 goals in 30 league matches.

HJK, the most famous Finnish sports club in Europe, have now a record of 16 league champions and 11 Suomen Cup titles to their back and have booked a place in the European champion’s league.

HJK-head coach Sixten Boström is happy and positive that the team has not yet suffered any injuries during the camp.

He said on club’s website ahead of yesterday’s game: “And we must remember that many players are not still in full 90-minute condition, so exchanges will be made during the game.”

HJK are also getting set for their league cup outing against Honka and MYPA next week.

On February 13 HJK is set to face another Norwegian side Honefoss at a Vantaa Tournament.

Swedish side Djurgardens IF will also play the Finnish giants in the side tournament on 16 February 2013.
