The Gambia National U-23 team, who left the shores of the country in the early hours of Thursday morning for an invitational friendly game in Rabat at the weekend, succumbed to a humiliating 3-nil defeat at the expense of their Moroccan counterparts.

The team that only had two-week preparations back home ahead of the friendly tie conceded three goals from Morocco two from a penalty spot and another from an open play, Pointsport has gathered.

The three GFA selected coaches - Alagie Sarr, Essa Sambou and Lamin Sambou - tasked with the responsibility of putting in place a formidable U-23 team that can achieve the desired result in Rabat, failed at the weekend in their attempt to secure any positive result.

The team, which comprises players mainly from the previous U-20 team that went to South Africa for the Caf African U-20 youth tournament, was scheduled to return home yesterday.

The friendly match was made possible thanks to the effort of the Moroccan Football Association that also took full responsibility for all the expenses of the Gambian team.

The 18-man squad that travelled to Rabat for the weekend’s friendly include Alagie Nyabally (Bakau United), Bubacarr Sanyang (Brikama United), Lamin Gibba (Wallidan), Saihou Jawneh (Bakau United), Omar Colley (Wallidan), Adama Sabally (Brikama United), Emmanuel Gomez (Samger), Mamut Saine (Seaview), Bubacarr Sanneh (Real de Banjul), Pa Sulayman Badjie (Samger), Mustapha Jatta (Hawks), Lamin Sarjo Samateh (Samger), Bully Drammeh (Brikama United), Sam Gibba (GPA), Modou Sarr (Gamtel), Assan Ceesay (Gamtel), Foday Trawally (Brikama United) and Babucarr Jammeh (Steve Biko).

This list of players was provided to The Pointsport desk by Seedy M.B. Kinteh, president of the GFA.
