Former Scorpions prolific forward Assan Jatta and his Belgian third division side Marakierke have suffered their heaviest defeat in the league so far, Pointsport can confirm.
The result has condemned them to their second consecutive defeat, following Sunday’s 3-1 demolition against FC Liera.
The 25-year-old goal machine (Jatta) played a major role in team’s weekend’s loss, but his 90 minutes involvement could do little to prevent the Belgian third tier side from slipping to their opponent FC Liera.
His closest effort came in the early stage of the encounter, when he volleyed from a close range effort thanks to a good pass from teammate, which eventually hit the cross bar and a half chance midway through the second period.
Jatta, who spent almost four years in the wilderness, following the expiry of his previous professional contract with then top Belgian club K. Lierse, in 2008 move to Marakierke from the local side Steve Biko a month ago and have since inked a one year deal for an undisclosed amount.
Following an eye-catching pre-season performance from the former Steve Biko captain, Jatta was handed his Marakierke debut in a 1-1 draw with Ganshoren R. ES Acrenoise, and netted an equalizer for his Belgian outfit who conceded their second defeat in the campaign one week ago.
Sunday’s defeat means Marakierke are without a win in three fixtures, and faces a must win situation to cement their place in the Belgian third division league as they are set to resume their quest for relegation survival with another crucial tie this Sunday.
Jatta who widely known as Bierhoff began active football with Vietnam Border in Bakau Naweetan, and progressed to the Bakau Zonal’s team, Steve Biko football club, the Gambia national U-17, U-23 and the senior national team, and has since forged a great reputation as one of the finest front men in Gambian football.
