Hawks maintain lead in GFA 2nd tier

Hawks are still maintaining their spectacular run of form in the 2010-11 Gambia Football Association second division league, despite their pulsating 1-1draw with Latrikunda United in the week nine fixtures, at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium recently.

Only few football followers will be doubtful of Hawks’ ability of conquering the second-tier league considering their success in the country’s top-tier league before eventually demoted to the second division following strings of woeful performances last term.

The Banjul club under the guidance of coach Sang Ndong are on the brink of gaining promotion to the second division although they still have some tough matches to realise their ambition with the second round still to come.

Elsewhere, the West Coast region boys, Lamin FC, were held to a goalless draw by Serrekunda East in the other week nine fixtures played at the Brikama Box bar Mini-stadium while Banjul United beat the newly promoted side Starlight 1-0 in an all-Banjul derby at the Banjul KG5 Mini-stadium the same day.

Other scores are as follows: Tallinding United drew 0-0 with Hotel boys Seaview at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium while Nema United also drew 1-1 with Serrekunda United at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

Hawks are leading the league table with 16 points in nine games.

They are closely followed by Serrekunda United at 2nd position with 16 points in nine games thrilling leaders Hawks by 3 points.

Banjul United are 3rd position with 15 points in nine games.

Tallinding United, Latrikunda United and Seaview have all bagged 12 points in nine games.

Nema United, Serrekunda East and Lamin FC all collected 10 points in nine games while Starlight are rooted at the bottom of the table with 5 points in nine games.
