Happy Gunjur FC booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the ongoing Gunjur Knock-out Championship after thrashing New Town FC 2-0 in their first quarter-final clash last Friday 23rd October 2009, at Gunjur Playing Grounds.
This thrilling encounter was keenly contested by brilliant display of skills and panache, attracting large turnout from Gunjur and its surrounding areas.
Both sides created some few clear scoring opportunities but they failed to capitalise on their opportunities until the first half-ended 0-0.
In the second half, New Town FC were unable to pick up their rhyme and they allowed their opponents Happy Gunjur FC to took total control of the game and made some serious assaults in front of New Town FC's goal. As a result, they opened the score sheet through midfielder Abdoulie Saidy in the 59th minute of the game from a long-range shoot. New Tow FC though fought hard for an equaliser but squandered all their scoring opportunities away, while Happy Gunjur FC sealed their victory through striker Omar Barrow from a brilliant header from Alsanna Marong’s cross to make 2-0 for Happy Gunjur FC.
Qcell FC also advanced to the semi-finals, following narrow 6-5 win over Pentagon FC in their second quarter encounter after 0-0 draw last Saturday 24th October 2009.
The quarter-final games will continue on Friday 30th October 2009, when Gamcel FC will lock horns with Santos United FC in the third quarter-finals, while NAS FC will face Commit FC in the forth Quarter-finals on Sunday 1st November 2009. All games will kick-start at 4.30pm.
