Gunjurians
in the diaspora recently generated funds for Gunjur zonal team after claiming
the 2016 FiBank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan for the first time in
their history.
Gunjur
clinched their first-ever Super Nawettan crown after beating Banjul 2-1 in a
well-attended final game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, on Friday
28 October 2016.
Midfielder
Salifu Bojang alias Bapa and striker Malang Jassey alias Uncle were on target
for Gunjur in the 36th and 77th minutes of the game respectively after
left-back Essa Jallow gave Banjul the lead in the 18th minute of the game from
a penalty spot after Gunjur’s left-back Yusupha Touray alias Eso brought down
Banjul’s pacey winger Assan Gaye inside the area.
As
a result of the team’s stunning performance in the country’s community biggest
football fiesta, Gunjurians in diaspora organised themselves and raised funds
to patronize the team for clinching their first-ever Super Nawettan crown since
the inception of the tournament in 1992.
The
Gunjur Sports Committe are yet to receive the cash from Gunjurians in the
diaspora after the team clinched their first-ever Super Nawettan crown
following their slender win over Banjul in the final on 28 October 2016, at the
country’s biggest football arena.
