Gunjur has withdrawn from the Kombo South District Football Tournament which is expected to kick off on Saturday 10th November 2012, at the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field.
According to the Executive Committee Gunjur Youth and Sports Development Association GYSDA, they decided to withdraw from competition due to financial constraints, adding that Gunjur is expected to take part in four major competitions and, at the moment, their focus is mainly on the Super Nawettan, GFA 2nd division league and the FA Cup.
“We definitely want to participate, but due to financial constraints, we decided to withdraw”.
However, “if the district sports committee can push the tournament to March 2013 Gunjur will participate”, they pointed out.
Bakary Jatta alias Jallada, a fan of Gunjur, said he was really disappointed with Gunjur’s decision to withdraw from the district competition, adding that Gunjur is blessed with a lot of young talents that can represent the village in the district competition.
Jatta said Gunjur has young players who can represent the village in the district tournament, “and our withdrawal from the competition blocks the chances of young talented players in the village”.
Seedou Kunta, a native of Gunjur, also expressed his disappointment about Gunjur’s withdrawal from the district tournament.
