Gunjur on Tuesday beat Lamin 2-1 in the group B encounter played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium to grab their first victory in the 2015 Gambia Football Federation-sponsored Super Nawettan.

Super Nawettan champions Lamin made an astonishing start to the game and dominated Gunjur in the midfield and came very close to scoring on separate occasions, but squandered all their limited goal-scoring opportunities.

Gunjur, who were out-played and out-classed by Lamin in the opening minute of the game, opened the scores through Red Star imaginative midfielder Salifu Bapa Bojang alias Aaron Ramsey in the 22nd minute of the game.

He did the job from a stunning strike after capitalizing on striker Saikouba Manneh’s excellent free kick after winger wizard Simon Bass alias super changa was brought down outside Lamin’s eighteen-yard box.

He fired home the opener and sent Gunjur fans into gigantic jubilation and Lamin fans silent.

Lamin responded back for an equalizer and mounted pressure on Gunjur but could not break through the South boys’ solid defence line thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Gunjur.

Upon resumption of the game, Gunjur continued where they left off in the first half and put more pressure on Lamin’s defence line.

Brikama United prolific striker Saikouba Manneh doubled Gunjur’s lead in the 51st minute of the game after notching in the second goal from Simon Bass alias Changa’s brilliant effort to dash Lamin’s hopes of coming to their feet, which eventually proved to be the winner for the South boys.

Lamin responded back quickly for an equalizer but managed to pull back one goal through Kalifu Manjang in the 85th minute of the game, which eventually proved to be a consolation goal for them thus the game ended 2-1 in favour of Gunjur.

Elsewhere, Manjai beat Serrekunda Central 1-0 at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda, while Bakau drew goalless with Brufut in the other group B clash played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.

Gunjur and Manjai are both with maximum 3 points each in one game after beating Lamin and Serrekunda Central in their opening game but the South boys are leading group B on goal difference.

Bakau and Brufut are third and fourth places in group B with 1 point in one outing after their goalless draw in their opening group ties.

Lamin and Serrekunda Central are second place from bottom and bottom place in group B with zero point in one game after losing to Gunjur and Manjai in their opening group matches.
