Gunjur Zonal team have defeated newcomers Serrekunda Central 2-0 in the group A encounter, in the ongoing Gambia Football Association (GFA) annual Super Nawetan zonal football championship played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Monday.
The game was dominated and controlled by Gunjur, and they created numerous goal-scoring opportunities in front of Serrekunda Central’s goal mouth.
Their efforts paid dividends in the 33rd minute of the game, when Real De Banjul’s prolific striker Yusupha Barrow alias Beckham netted the opener after slashing through Serrekunda Central zonal team’s defence line to give Gunjur zonal team the lead.
Moments later, Gunjur zonal team found themselves 2-0 up in the 38th minute of the game, when Yusupha Barrow alias Beckham netted a second goal from a brilliant header from Kansidia Touray’s cross to complete his brace, and dashed Serrekunda Central Zonal team’s hopes of coming back to their feet.
Dodou Saine, Yusupha Barrow alias Beckham and Abdou Joof could have scored for Gunjur zonal team in the 40th, 42nd and 45th minutes of the game, but those chances was denied by Serrekunda Central zonal team’s goalkeeper, and the game ended 2-0 in favour of Gunjur zonal team.
Elsewhere, the defending champions Serrekunda East were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Manjai in the other group A game played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on the same day.
Speaking to Pointsport shortly after the game, the head coach of Gunjur zonal team, Hatab Jobe, said following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Serrekunda East, he and his technical team have work very hard to snatch a victory against Serrekunda Central, and are going back to the training grounds to prepare very hard for

The head coach of Serrekunda Central zonal team, Abdul Wahab Gaye, said his was not lucky to bag the maximum points, and expressed appreciation to him for a brilliant performance in the game.
He stated that his team failed to play as a team in the first half and, as result, Gunjur were able to scored two goals that made things very difficult and, in the second half, they played very well and created a series of goal-scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize on them.
