Gunjur
Sports Committee is set to hold meeting with Nawettan clubs in Gunjur on Sunday
5 February 2017, at the Gunjur Daycare Centre at 9.30am.
The
aim and objective of the meeting is to discuss the 2016 pending Gunjur nawettan
season.
It
would be recalled that Red Star Family FC will clash with Reliance Financial
Services FC in the Knockout final after eliminating FC Bax and Gam Rock FC in
the semifinal matches prior to Gunjur’s 2016 Fibank Gambia Limited-sponsored
Super Nawettan triumph after their 2-1 win over Banjul in the final game played
at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, on Friday 28 October 2016.
The
goals have been registered by Salifu Bojang alias Bapa, who was decorated as
the best player of the 2016 Fibank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan, and
striker Malang Jassey alias Uncle. These strikes have been inspired Gunjur to
their first-ever Super Nawettan crown since the inception of the tournament in
1992, by Gambia Football Association.
Red
Star Family FC beat FC Bax 1-0 in the semifinal to sail to the final, courtesy
of centre-back Saikou Barrow’s second half long-range strike.
Elsewhere,
Reliance Financial Services FC defeat Gam Rock on the same score line to
advance to the final.
Centre-back
Fabakary Touray alias Maxi was on target for Reliance Financial Services FC in
the second half from penalty spot after Gam Rock FC’s player handled the ball
inside the area.
Meanwhile,
Red Star Family FC will battle out with Waves FC in the 2016 Green Vision Real
Estate Company Limited-sponsored Gunjur nawettan league quarterfinal.
Black
Star of Berending Village will play against Reliance Financial Services FC in
the other quarterfinal game.
Elsewhere,
Kundembo FC and Dunes FC of Nyofelleh village are through to the semifinal of
the 2016 Green Vision Real Estate Company Limited-sponsored Gunjur nawettan
league after eliminating Solid Properties FC and Gam Rock FC in the
quarterfinal matches.
The
Gunjur Asselem based-outfit beat Solid Properties FC 1-0 in the quarterfinal to
progress to the semifinal.
The
Nyofelleh based-outfit defeated Gam Rock FC on penalties, after the regulation
time failed to produce a winner in the quarterfinal to advance to the
semifinal.
