Gunjur Community Link reviews draft constitution

Gunjur Community Link on 3 August 2013 reviewed its draft constitution at the Gunjur Day Centre, after the authorities decided to lift imposed ban on the link.

Speaking at the constitutional review meeting, the chairman of Gunjur Village Development Committee (VDC), Demba Jobe Touray, said the review of the constitution was possible after authorities decided to lift a ban imposed on the link.

Jobe Touray added that the VDC had received a letter from the governor of West Coast Region which stated that “Gunjur Community Link is free to select a new executive board” that will run the affairs of the link for the next three years.

The executive board will be inaugurated by the Minister of Lands and Local Government, Momodou Aki Bayo, he also said, while commending the taskforce committee for preparing the draft constitution.

The Alkalo of Gunjur, Alhagie Sulayman Touray, also applauded the taskforce committee headed by Tijan Bojang for preparing the draft constitution.

The village head urged the youth of Gunjur to remain united and always work towards the development of the village, saying unity will aid them to develop the village.

The chief of Kombo South, Alhagie Mustapha Touray, hailed the taskforce committee for their efforts in preparing the draft constitution, while acknowledging how painstaking it is to prepare such a document.

Tijan Bojang, chairman of the taskforce committee, thanked Gunjurians for attending the constitutional review, saying the draft constitution will be adopted on 11 August 2013 at the Gunjur Day Care Centre.
