GPA complete brace over Samger to move six-point clear in GFF 1st Division

Gambia Ports Authority have completed a double over Samger to move six points clear in the 2015-2016 Gambia Football Federation domestic division one league.

The ferry boys beat academy 2-1 in the week-eighteen fixtures played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday to move six points clear ahead of second-place Brikama United, who drew 1-1 with relegation threatened Banjul United at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on Friday.

Brikama United opened the scores through striker Saikouba Ceesay in the 18th minute of the game before Muhammed Samba levelled the scores for Banjul United in the 37th minute of the game to share the spoils.

Gambia Ports Authority defeated Samger 2-1 in the first round prior to their Saturday’s week-eighteen clash and the academy boys came all out for revenge to grab the vital three points to improve their position in the league, after losing to the ferry boys in the revised fixtures. They were however reluctant to clinch the vital three points and the Gambia Ports Authority did bag the maximum points to renew their lead in the summit with four more matches to play in the country’s top flight season.

Gambia Ports Authority opened the scores through former Wallidan midfielder George Cole in the 7th minute of the game from the penalty spot before Mamadi Ngum levelled the scores for Samger in the 20th minute of the game.

George Cole snatched the winner for Gambia Ports Authority in the 52nd minute of the game to move six points clear ahead of second-place Brikama United, and also completed his hat-trick.

Elsewhere, Wallidan beat Bombada 3-2 at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium. Steve Biko drew goalless with Gambia Armed Forces at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.

Real De Banjul walloped Hawks 4-0 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium.

Real De Banjul opened the tally through striker Pa Omar Jobe in the 31st ninute of the game, moment later Real De Banjul found themselves 2-0 ahead when striker Pa Omar Jobe netted second goal one minute before break to complete his brace.

Baboucarr Camara scored the third goal for Real De Banjul in the 52nd minute of the game before striker Pa Omar Jobe notched in the fourth goal to complete his hat-trick to maintain Real De Banjul’s hopes of winning the league.

Elsewhere, Serrekunda United defeated Gamtel 2-1 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.

Gamtel opened the scores through midfielder Adama Jarjue in the first half; Serrekunda United levelled the scores through striker Lamin Jassey in the 64th minute of the game.

Lamin Manneh scored the winner for Serrekunda United in the 74th minute of the game.

Gambia Ports Authority are topping the race with 39 points in eighteen league matches; Brikama United are still second place in the race with 33 points in eighteen league matches; Real De Banjul are third with 31 points in eighteen league matches, and Hawks are fourth with 24 points in eighteen league matches.

Gamtel are fifth with 23 points in eighteen league matches; Gambia Armed Forces and Steve Biko are sixth and seventh with 20 points in eighteen league matches, and Samger are eighth with 19 points in eighteen league matches.

Wallidan are ninth with 18 points in eighteen league matches; Bombada are tenth with 17 points in eighteen league matches; Serrekunda United are second-place from bottom with 16 points in eighteen league matches, and Banjul United are rock bottom with 15 points in eighteen league matches.
