Government Theft Case, Magistrate Indisposed

The criminal trial involving Lt. Bakary Camara, Manlafi Sanyang and the Italian National Demonico Fedelish had been deferred to today Friday for continuation.

The case, which was schedule for the continuation of hearing yesterday at the Banjul Magistrates' Court, could not proceed as the presiding Magistrate Kayode was reported to be sick.

It will be recalled that the three accused persons Lt Bakary Camara former body guard to the president, Manlafi Sanyang former Government vehicles controller at the State House and Demonico Federlish Italian National are standing trial on the offences of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing a motor vehicle Bjl 4063B being the property of the Gambian Government. Lt Bakary Camara is facing additional charges of giving false information to a public officer.

In a related development the case involving Manlafi Sanyang could also not proceed before the same Magistrate Kayode as he was said to be indisposed.

Ex-superintendent Manlafi Sanayang is also facing separate charges of abuse of office by stealing a motor vehicle Bjl 4591A being the property of the state. He is also alleged to have stolen the sum of D75, 000 (seventy - five thousand Dalasi) being the proceeds realised from the sale of said vehicle Bjl 4591A. Both cases were adjourned to today the 28thMarch 2008.
