The Gambia National Olympic Committee will at its Special General Assembly in June confirm Major-General Lang Tombong as President of the national body for a period of four years.

A press release from the GNOC yesterday states: "At the close of nomination on Wednesday 15th April 2009 for the position of president of the GNOC, Major General Lang Tombong Tamba was the only nominated candidate."

"In the circumstances therefore, Major General Lang Tombong Tamba will be confirmed in office as president of the GNOC for a period of four years at the special General Assembly of the GNOC on Saturday 6th June 2009," the release adds.

During the nominations earlier this week, 14 out of 23 affiliated associations of the Gambia National Olympic Committee that were eligible to vote unanimously nominated the GFA Vice President, Major General Lang.

Abdoulie M Touray Secretary General of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, who was also vying for the position of the GNOC presidency for the June congress, officially announced his withdrawal. As a result, Tamba was left unopposed for the position.
